SUSE 9.1 personal firewall masquerading - disabling

Hi,
I have a modem dialup connection on SUSE 9.1 and I use KInternet. I have the firewall option turned on in the Modem setup and it seems that when the firewall is on it automatically does packet fowarding or masquering (whatever you call it when it gives other networked computers access the the internet connection)

Anyway, I was wondering if there was a configuration file somewhere where you could turn this off if necessary so the connection isn't shared amoungst network computers whenever i have the firewall turned on.

Thanks

ok,

in your /etc/sysconfig folder there is a file called sysctl. Somewhere in this file it says IP_FORWARDING="yes/no".
Guess what, your right configuration is "no". ...So far for packet forwarding!

You can also turn off your masquerading. Look if you have set the parameter REJECT_ALL_INCOMING_CONNECTIONS set to a value different than " ".For example "ppp0 masq" sets masquerading for all thats behind ppp0. So leave this blank in /etc/sysconfig/personal-firewall.

p.s.: u can also turn off ip forwarding by:
echo 0 >> /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
this turns it off for now, chaning it in /etc/sysconfig/sysctl should
remove it permanently!

Let me know if I helped.

Thanks for your reply. In the file you mentioned it has
REJECT_ALL_INCOMING_CONNECTIONS="modem"

What does this mean? Because currently other computers can use the connection.

yes, i read all of that, but it doesn't mention what my settings do, and i don't even understand what masquerading does in detail, so I just want to know what REJECT_ALL_INCOMING_CONNECTIONS = modem means in my specific case, what this setting does, and if it the right setting to allow other computers to utilise the connection.
