su command not working for root


Hi,
I tried to change shell for root in /etc/passwd file from bash to tcsh and after that i am having problem in logging to root thru su command. even after reverting back to bash i get the following error

su: /bin/bash : No such file or directory

Can nebody help me out.

Use chsh command to change user shell to avoid errors. Your bash shell must be installed and it should have an entry in /etc/shells file.

Also check in the bin directories (/bin, /usr/bin) for the actual su command executable. You can execute it using the full path (e.g. /bin/su). Probably your $PATH variable is overwritten or blank.
