Stuck at /sbin/loader

I'm trying to install Fedora Core 6 to a clean 80GB drive. It hangs at /sbin/loader eachtime.

Initially I thought maybe the HDD was bad, so I switched it, and still getting the same thing. The pc is a cannabalized Compaq. I've tried installing on VMWare just to see if was a bad burn, and everything runs smooth. Any ideas as to what could be happening?

I guess that this is a SATA drive. The kernel has some problems handling SATA drives. I have a SCSI drive and need to pass these parameters to get FC6 to boot:

linux all-generic-ide oci=nommconf acpi=off irqpoll

Update: You won't be able to run many distribution on this hard disk if it is SATA. FC6 will run because it has kernel 2.6.18 but ubuntu and others won't run even after you pass all those boot parameters because some of them are still using 2.6.17 kernel

Could have let you know that too. It's not SATA, it's IDE.
