Congrats and thanks! As a matter of fact, I had for a first time a dual installation Windows/Linux, but in the end, when I re-installed Ubuntu, I skipped Windows, because I never liked anything Windows, that's why I arrived at Linux. Not because I am IT wizkid nor guru. On the other hand I knew, I would be able to run that damn app (first it was java and somebody helped me to run it dircetly as java under Ubuntu, but then they changed it*) and I got the confirmation of a wine guy there at winebugs, that it runs under wine-devel 5.15. So I am trying to run it like that, because this will also keep my software small, light, and not too expensive. In the end, I will have to do another installation and be more careful when chosing the guide for installing wine.
* The developers of the app seem to be from Ferrari, they either don't know or don't want to know, or both, what they are doing.

My impression is that Perl, Java & Python allow a programmer to put together a fairly fancy app with less work. Of them all, python seems to do the fanciest graphics and python3 is where it's at, once you grab the 500 required modules . You can rely heavily on outside modules to do the heavy lifting. So python devs might get away with not knowing much, it's true

Java is no.2 and is more functional than graphical but there's a lot of good and stable stuff in java. GeoMapApp is in Java, so is MITK, the X-Ray viewer. Perl seems to be the least graphical, but has it's own niche in console stuff - Spamassassin with all that text transmogrification is in Perl, and, I believe, server stuff. Perl has modules too, but we're not into heavy graphics afaik.
