Streaming Windows Media Video Content in firefox will not work
Hello. I am using ubuntu and I have tried to install the mozilla plugins pack for mplayer so I can use them with firefox. However, whenever I go to windows media streaming file it opens xine browser plugin which does not even work. I am spefically trying to play videos on cmt.com (i know its country ). Any help with getting these videos to work would be appreciated. I have tried installing all of the plugins both from source and as debian packages from the repositories. Thanks.
I just uninstalled the gxine plugin and the mplayer plugin popped up in firefox. However, the video is extremely slow and choppy and I have an extremely fast connection. Does anyone know of anyway to fix this issue. Also, it only seems to play the advertisement part of the video rather than the actual content. It stops playing when it finishes the advertisement. Thanks again.

I think mplayer is using xine as its GUI. I would try running mplayer from command line or console just to see what it says. If you can find the right packages, I had to install the latest mplayer (1.0pre7 I think), then I installed the mplayer plugin (3.21) and of course the mplayer codecs. That wasn't enough, so I threw in divx4linux, xvidcore and lame. I think if you check out mplayer's website, the might have what you need in codecs. Good luck.
I tried playing a normal audio file through mplayer without the plugin and its still choppy even on the desktop. I don't know what is wrong with mplayer. VLC seems to work fine, but mplayer plays everything choppy.
Using gmplayer (the gui version), I had a few problems initially when running it with just gmplayer. A suggestion from the output in the terminal was to use the -ao flag to specify the audio driver. I now run it with gmplayer -ao alsa, which has improved the playback.
There is more info on this in the man page for mplayer (about a fifth of the way through)
Thank you to everyone who provided their ideas to me in this thread. It is appreciated. It turns out the audio driver was the issue. I ran mplayer through the terminal using both the -ao alsa and -ao oss options, and the video played fine with oss. Thanks again!
