step-by-step scanner instrcutions for hp psc 1210?

anyone know the step-by-step process to scan an image after loading all the appropriate hp drivers/hpoj/cups/etc? printing works fine for me. scanning doesn't.

i.e. what commands do i type in to scan my first image, as gimp doesn't seem to have a scanning option. i'd like a gui if possible. thanks.

I have been using a psc 1210 for 12 months now.
After installing hpoj etc run
~$ptal-init setup
and follow the prompts.
Scanning will be available immediately.
Unless ptal is started during boot up you will need to do
~$ptal-init start (or setup)
each time you want to do some scanning.
ptal needs to start before cups during startup and stop before cups during shutdown. Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.M and /etc/rc.d/rc.6 (Slackware 10). That was my solution. Or use sysV init if it comes with your system.
After that I use kooka or xsane. Not sure about gimp plugin for scanning.
Hope this is the kind of info you were looking for.

I have the same problem and tried the ptal-init as suggested. Now, I cannot print whereas before I could.

I am a newbie when it comes to Linux. I tried stopping and starting CUPS and so on, but I probably have done it wrong.

I have looked around through Google, but I'm not getting very far because I'm not sure how to ask the right question, so I would be very grateful if someone could post a source for printing in Linux so I can start from scratch.
