start directory

This is probably just a quick question but as I can't seem to find an answer to it by searching these forums or google (I'm probably searching for the wrong thing, I'm not quite sure how to phrase this question) I've decided to post it here.

I've noticed that today (it was fine yesterday) every time I start up a terminal (be it aterm or rxvt) I seem to start in the /var/mail directory. I do have mail there which I read... thought it might have been an important mail or something but no, I still end up in the mail directory every time.

How do I change this? And any idea why this might have happened?

Thanks.

If you grep your /etc/passwd file for the user that you are logged in as when you launch these terminals, does it still list the that users home directory as the path that you think it should be or does it list the /var/mail dir?

What happens when you simply enter 'cd'? Does it take you to your normal home dir or back to /var/mail?

You were probably in /var/mail when you did startx.

Shade: Heh, yeah. That was it. I didn't think of it before though... as I didn't notice this untill after a couple of days running X. Thanks.
