Hello Folks

I have a debian box that runs 3 VMware servers. I am curious if there is a way where I can fire these vmware sessions up on boot. I had a situation where the power went out (exhausted my UPS's battery) and was unable to VPN into my network. I'd like to find a way to prevent this from happening again.

If you run VMware server, then if you start vmware, open a guest, options, startup/shutdown, "On host startup"? Or else install Vmware Tools in guest and use 'vmware-cmd yourconfig start'?

i'm using vmware player, but i'll give that a whirl....

I doubt it'll work with VMware Player, I mean isn't that the stripped-down thing? VMware server is available and is easy to install and configure.

yeah, i'm installing it right now.....

i figured that i would need to install server to do it.... no big deal.

it's compiling the kernel stuff right now... i'll let you know if i get it to work

well, that's weird. i installed it, and now i can't get it to browse to where i have them stored. i click on browse and it just sits there and does nothing.......

Ok - I figured it out, and I'm posting incase someone else gets this, as this stumped the hell out of me --





in order to resolve the browse problem

1. Open a terminal and su to root.

su

2. Change to the libpng12.so.0 directory.

cd /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0

3. Rename the libpng12.so.0 file within that directory.

mv libpng12.so.0 libpng12.so.0.old

4. Create a new soft link for this file.

ln -sf /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0 libpng12.so.0

5. Now change the the libgcc_s.so.1 directory.

cd /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1

6. Rename the libgcc_s.so.1 file within that directory.

mv libgcc_s.so.1 libgcc_s.so.1.old

7. Create a new soft link for this file.

ln -sf /lib/libgcc_s.so.1

8. Restart VMware and you should now be able to use the browse option.
/etc/init.d/vmware restart
