SOME sound files wont play on my RH9. Bad header??

I tansfered all my mp3 files from Windows to Linux but they wont play on any of the sound players. I downloaded an assortment of sound files from the web and only about half of them play. I looked under "properties" and found that all the ones that dont play are labled as having reasonable file size, but zero length. I'm wondering if there's a way to get a sound player to look at the file and find out the length itself. Or maby relable the file.
Thanks,
-Matthew

Are you sure they are all mp3 encoded files???, and not .ogg or any other audio format.

If they are .ogg/other file format's, you need to install the necessary plugins [codecs] for Xmms/.. on Linux.

They are .mp3.
I got them from an assortment of websites.
I've never heard of .ogg.
but it says the file type is MPEG layer 3 audio.
and it ends in .mp3 even when it was on my windows.
I think i need to get the audio player to disregard the heading but there's nothing like that in any of the options.

no, there's not DRM on all of them. The only thing i found they have in common is that Linux thinks that they are zero seconds long. which would explain why they're not playing. I just dont know what to do about it.

RH9 doesn't come with mp3 support. You have to download an rpm and install it for it to work. Go to this site:
http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrp...p.fr1.i386.rpm

Make sure to install it under root.
