software installation question

Hi,

when I install a program (e.g tightvnc).How can I know where the fileset of the program will be installed.
Can i specify a location(i.e a specify directory or path) to install the fileset?

You can use the prefix switch. ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/bin and that's where it get installed to. To get a list of options run ./configure --help Did that answer your question?

for normal installation, "rpm -ihv xxxxxx.rpm"

Can I veiw the installation path, or change the installation path?

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but with the rpm's (not source rpm's), the path is set or at least the algorithm that determines the future path is set. A running of 'rpm --help | grep path' yields this:
