show date in mysql

hello everyone,
I am createing a blogging application, however I have a question. When I post something I am using the datetime funtion in mysql to display the date. All I get is 0000000 etc. Does anyone know how to set up a default constraint in mysql so it uses the NOW() function to disply the date when a record is inserted? thank you.
