Question Setting up GRUB Bootloader to boot from CD

I was wondering if there was any way to make grub boot a CD?

I'm not sure which devices to use to do that.

Why would you want to do that? Wouldn't be easier to simply use a bootable CD . Anyway, Mandrake/Lilo has an option to boot a floopy:

Code:
other=/dev/fd0
      label="floopy"
      unsafe
maybe adding a similar option as /dev/hdc would do the trick. I've no idea how grub.config looks like, but it should be similar. I've no idea if that will work either

My reasoning is because the way my laptop works is you must hit F12, to boot from a CD, and if I forget to hit F12, then I have to reboot, to do it. If I had an option on my menu, I wouldn't have to worry about hitting the button in time. I also, have a shutdown and a reboot option on my menu for convience.

I'll see if I can find anyway to do it... But any help would be appreciated

Ah, I see. Thanks mate!. Well, try looking if it's possible as I suggested you. Try looking at /etc/grub.config a similar thing as I said. Then type:

/sbin/grub-install

to reinstall grub with the new configurations. Make sure to make a boot disk or something when playing around with the boot loader, just in case

According to:
http://www.picknowl.com.au/homepages...ring_grub.html

"it doesn't appear to give you a way to boot from CD-ROMs"

I wonder if they're right?
