Sendmail - how to emulate it?

I remember a while ago I was running sendmail.

Then I realize that sendmail is horrible so I switched to qmail. During the switch I removed (well replaced, I still have the old executable) with qmail's own version which delivers mail to qmail directly.

Then I realized that qmail is too stone-age, so I switced to james (http://james.apache.org/, highly recommended).

But now i noticed that sendmail program provided by qmail doesn't deliver my cron logs like it should...

So I'm wondering - is it ok to just put back the old sendmail executable? Or is there something I need to download?
