I have a linux sendmail sever and an exchange server on the same company network. When testing the linux mail server I am able to send external emails all over the place with sendmail command line, and pine everything is fine. When I try to send an internal email with pine or sendmail that is where the trouble begins.
I tailed the maillog and seen the following status being displayed at the end of all my internal emails to the exchange server.

status=Deferred : Connection timed out with my.exchange server.com

Now I telnet out to my linux box at home and sent my self a test email using sendmail. There was little delay then the exchange inbox has my email I sent from my linux box at home with no problems.

I missed something in the sendmail.cf file or access.db or the localhost-host-name or some other map file?

The only error I am getting is the timeout error to the company exchange mail server.

so has anybody had this problem where they can send out email externally with sendmail or pine but not send internally?

linux os i am using is RedHat 7.3
exchange server os is NT4.0 sp6a.

sendmail is v 8.11.6

OK I found out my exchange server is not accepting relay mail and that is what I am doing with send mail. I need to tell sendmail not to relay on the same domain is this possiable.
