sendmail and ssmtp

Hi, When I try to install ssmtp, the sendmail package gets removed, when I tried to install the sendmail package, ssmtp gets removed. I can send email when I install ssmtp and have the right configuration, but the fetchmail won't receive message. When I install the sendmail package, I can get messages successfully, but I can't send emails.
Here is the syslog when I have sendmail installed, it seems like the messages are sent, but I don't receive them in my inbox:
Code:
Nov 24 05:15:27 sm-mta[21612]: pAOCFE8s021612: from=<root@nas>, size=254, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201111241214.pAOCEdH4021587@nas>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA-v4, relay=localhost [127.0.0.1]
Nov 24 05:15:41 sendmail[21587]: pAOCEdH4021587: to=xxxxxxx@hotmail.com, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:01:00, xdelay=00:00:33, mailer=relay, pri=30005, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (pAOCFE8s021612 Message accepted for delivery
This is the error when I am trying to start sendmail while ssmtp is installed:
Code:
# /etc/init.d/sendmail start
sh-3.1# Starting Mail Transport Agent (MTA): sendmailhostname: Unknown host
hostname: Unknown host
start-stop-daemon: stat /usr/sbin/sendmail-mta: No such file or directory (No such file or directory)
[1]+ Done(2) $CMD
sh: /usr/sbin/sendmail-msp: No such file or directory
Thanks,
Ted

Have you tried icedove you can get it from synaptic in debian. You can also send & receive mail on it.

use msmtp package to sendmail, this doesn't conflict with sendmail.
Thanks,
Ted
