Searching for RHEL7 replacement for HAL commands

I had been using HAL to gather system information, and now that HAL is gone in EL7-based distros, I am having trouble finding a replacement. Specifically, for:

hal-get-property --udi /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer --key system.hardware.uuid

which had allowed me to gather the UUID of the system without needing elevated privileges. Also, I have yet to find a replacement for

hal-get-property --udi /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer --key system.hardware.product

and

hal-get-property --udi /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer --key system.board.product

If anyone has, or can think of, a way to get this data without root access, please share!

The first question I have is, did you contact Red Hat and ask? RHEL7 is a commercial, PAY-FOR distro, and when you pay, you get support. This is covered in Red Hat's knowledgebase, which you have access to as a paying customer.

And I'd check into the udevadm command if I was you.

I guess we may have to switch to using machine-id. At least I can read most of the missing info from /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/.
