Screen Resolution

I just got icepack linux installed. I had trouble with the mouse and keyboard, but it just happened to work after whatever the hell I did.

It is a gnome/kde/windoze version of linux. It displays in the center half of my screen. It is a 14in screen, and I have, pretty much, a 2in black border aound the activre screen.
This wouldn't bother me, but the windows that open up won't resize to fit the workspace. They run off the edge.
It seems like it is using my 1024x768 screen resolution and, using an 800x600. only, it isn't stretching to fit. I just need it to fill my whole screen w/o windows bing off the edge. I can run the konsole just fine though.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
