scp bandwith too low !

Hi there,
I have 2 Linux boxes connected with a cross-over cat5 cable. both has 10/100 ethernet cards. When I use scp to copy a file from one computer to another the max speed I get is 1.1/MB sec. My question is, how can I increase the transfer speed? Since I have 10/100 cards on both systems shouldn't I be getting 100/Mb sec?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Fernando,

What speeds are the two machines? Because of the encryption used by scp, it takes two quite fast computers to fill up a 100 Mbps link (= ~12 MB/s) (I'd guess at least about 500Mhz CPU's)

Just to emphasise this, nukkel is exactly right, your maximum is
100 MBits / second.

8 Bits == 1 Byte

so 100/8 MBits = 12.5 MB/s

As nukkel said as well, there is also the problem of encryption. How about trying to transfer something normally (without encryption) via FTP or HTTP and see what speeds you get?

(And what speed are the boxes?)
