I have a Linux server that is running fine as a PDC and serving up files and authorizations to workstations running Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.

I am trying to add another Linux box to my network. I don't want to have to set up all of the users from the PDC on this machine so I am trying to get winbindd to work. However, whenever I start winbindd interactively it ends with the following lines:

winbindd: idmap uid range missing or invalid
winbindd: cannot continue, exiting.

If i don't run it interactively these two lines do not get written to the log, but the daemon does shut down.

Can anyone tell me what range of idmap uids would be valid? I have tried setting everything from extremely small to extremely large numbers and the error continues.

BTW, it was on a Slackware 10.1 and 10.0 box. But the config files should work fine for you.
