Samba is installed on an old PC running through Puppy Tahr and on another running through Linux Mint vers20 ( some months ago it was
on Ubuntu 16.04 and I got no problems with the shared files ).
The ping is correct from one PC towards the other but I can't reach any share files: "Yassm" on Puppy Tahr don't find any shared files and "Peasyport" on Puppy Tahr don't find any local network.
From a security perspective best to leave SMBv1 disabled, and upgrade samba servers to use SMBv2 as a minimum. However, in a private network behind a firewall, it may be reasonable to utilise this deprecated protocol for pragmatic purposes (ie convenience vs security).
Please note that with SMBv1 disabled, samba NetBIOS-based discovery/browsing is no longer. Instead, you can use 'smb://<hostname>/share' to reach the shares as required.
The opposite doesn't work. Within Puppy I use "Yassm" but it doesn't find
any shared files on the Mint PC. Maybe another file manager will be useful.
That is likely due to the Mint samba host requiring SMB2 (or higher). It might be possible to configure the Puppy host to use the same. It might be as simple as an edit to /etc/samba/smb.conf, find the [global] section and append the following line:
Code:
client min protocol = SMB2
I'm not familiar with the Yassm application or it's capabilities, so that may also be a limiting factor here.

Just to clarify, when you say 'find' (discover), that won't work because it relied on the NetBIOS-based discovery as already explained. (Do take the time to read through the pages I linked to.)
From reading this page... http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=63090
I note an image showing that the 'vers=' value (SMB protocol) can be specified. So try using 2.0 perhaps. Other than that will likely need the assistance of a Puppy user.
In a way the problem is solved: the Puppy PC ( 16 years old ) has now
a hardware problem so the only solution is to exchange it...and install
Mint on it.
