running applications from terminal

Hi All,

I have written a couple of small practice programs with PyQt, which end with either .py or pyw, anyway I want to see what the end result looks like but I don't know how to run the program, when I double click the icon for the file it opens up a text editer (g++), what is the cammand to make the application run from terminal.

I run Ubuntu 8.10 just incase anyone needs to know.

Thanks very much.

John

If you have "#! /usr/bin/python" st the beginning of the script, then I think you can simply run it using "./filename" (Replace "/usr/bin/python" with the correct path to your python interpreter and be sure the file is set to be executable.)

Otherwise (I think) you could just enter "python filename".
