rsyn to ignore the mode change

A directory on my portable drive has a mode of

drwx------

while the copied directory on my computer hard drive has a mode of

drwxr-xr-x

This causes rsync with the following options to update the directory
entry (not the content under the directory):

rsync -avn --delete $CHOME/$dir --modify-window=1

Since I usually do a dry-run to detect the genuine difference in files before
syncing so how to do I ask rsync to ignore such trivial
difference (or may be fatal to ignore ?) ? I have many such
lines due to "differences" in directories on the output of my screen and it hides though genuine difference.

I have no idea why the mode changes upon connecting the same
portable drive to CentOS 5.2 or CentOS 6.1, but this issue deserve
some attention.

Thanks!

If you're more concerned about the mode then you can create a udev rule to alter it for that device.

sorry for raising the issue. I did this:

I fully expand the meaning of -a which is -rlptgoD and take out -p.
So my options are -rltgoD.

Not an elegant solution but at least a solution.

Any useful links on udev rules ?

This should be enough to get you up and running: http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html
