RPM mistake !

Hi

I tried to install something called Gaim 0.81 from RPM package. I got an error :

Failed dependencies:
gtk+2.0 >= 2.0.0 is needed by gaim-0.81-0mdk10.0

The problem is that GTK+2.4 is installed on my computer, and works fine.

It seems to be a RPM mistake, isn't it ? What ca I do ?

You can try to force the installation of the RPM.
Code:
rpm -ivh --force package
It may or may not work...

That's a good idea...and it worked.
I guess Mandrake doesn't share the same architecture as RedHat, or rpm did not search very far...

hi
both mandrake and redhat have different sets of binaries and files
thr are different compilers and applications installed of different versions.so u need to choose correct application for download, alo if u downlaod the source, generallly in the form of .tar.bz2,.tar.gz
then u can use that on any platform

hi
when u get to installing applicatiuons at many such points ur left where u have no other method but to use --nodeps or --force
--force worth giving a try when everything fails

also it depends on the package ur using,
do no to do that for some important packages
u can do that on multimedia packages etc etc

regards
