Retrieving msdos, vfat and ntfs labels

Hello,

Anybody knows a way to retrieve msdos, vfat and ntfs partition labels?

For msdos I know that can be used mtools. And for vfat and ntfs partitions?

Thanks in advance.

Did you take a look in /etc/fstab?

http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/status.html#ntfstools

Not sure but it appears that mtools can handle a vfat parition.

I wasn't sure when you said:
"Anybody know a way to retrieve msdos, vfat and ntfs partition labels?"

Did you have them and then lose them?
You can recreate a mount point by editing fstab

/dev/hda1 /dos vfat defaults 0 0

Assuming you know how the disks are partitioned...

I believe what katmandu is refering to is a volume label. For FAT filesystems it is an eleven character and 32 characters for NTFS filesystems.

You can change a drives partiton label in explorer by right clicking, selecting properties and typing something in the label field.
