relocation error: symbol not defined with link time reference

I posted this at the KDE forums, but they don't get much traffic so I thought I'd try here. When I try to run KMail I get the following error:

Code:
kmail: relocation error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5WebEngineCore.so.5:
symbol jpeg_crop_scanline version LIBJPEG_8.0 not defined in file libjpeg.so.8 with link time reference
I hadn't opened it for a few days, so its hard to backtrack what I might have done to make it stop working. Although I haven't made any really significant changes to my system, especially not it the KDE/QT/Plasma realm.

I've tried removing/reinstalling all sorts of things with no luck. I've also run:
Code:
nm -D /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5WebEngineCore.so.5
and
Code:
nm -D /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libjpeg8.so.8
both outputs show that the symbol
Code:
jpeg_crop_scanline
is present so I'm really at a loss now. Not sure if I'm looking in the right place.

Thanks for any help!

working. I had installed the appleseed renderer which came with its own libjpeg. it was causing the problem.
