Refresh Disk Space Table

Hello all,

I ran in to an issue with low disk space on one of my partitions. I deleted a huge file in the directory but when I issue the df command, the partition still shows 100% usage.

How can I update this b/c i'm still unable to write anything to the directory b/c it's "full"

Thanks

Some process still uses the file. Try rebooting.

I'm unable to reboot the machine though, it's in production.

Try "lsof" to see what still has the file open.

Then you need to stop the process that uses the file. What file was it? Do lsof or fuser perhaps show the process?

Thanks guys

I did the lsof for the filename and I found 3 lines. All of them stated (deleted) next to the filename. I tried deleting the processes on them so see if it would do anything and nothing happened.

The system is unable to find the filename with the fuser command.

The the processes must still be running.
How did you try to "delete" the processes?
Which processes were/are they?

So processes 16609, 16669 and 16714 owned by root are actually `cat` commands which output the file.
I'd go for a `kill -9 16609 16669 16714` as root but of course you need to be OK with that, knowing the context.

You've got 3 root processes catting the file. Why would you do that when you want to delete the file? Did you close terminals that were catting the file? What commands did you try to kill the processes? There are several levels of kill, which ones have you tried?

Hey guys,

It's now resolved. It just resolved on it's own after about 10 mins. I just issued the "kill processid" command on the file.

I wonder if it was due to the cats finishing.
