recompile kernel

For my bluetooth module I had to change a line in my .config file. now I have to recompile my kernel. The first time, when i build my kernel, i did:
make mrproper
make oldconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make install

do I now have to redo all this steps, or can I now leave some steps away?

That depends if it's a 2.4 or a 2.6 kernel

if you didnt already do a make mrproper then once you change youre config just do a make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install then copy bzImage to /boot. this is still most of the steps but if you dont do makle mrproper it wont take nearly as long.

if this is just a modified redhat 9 default kernel it would be a lot easier if you installed the source rpm and edited the .spec file rather than doing everthing manually. This would make it a lot cleaner to remove or make changes to since all you would have to do is edit the .spec file and run an 'rpm -ba kernel.spec' and it would create your kernel image as an rpm that you can install with 'rpm -ivh kernel.rpm'
