I have previously used and loved linux mint on my old mesh system. Recently I brought a new to me pc and have been having great trouble finding a linux system that will run on it. Have tried booting from both live CD's and installation iso's. All distros tried so far hang after a few minutes of loading files.
(LINUX MINT 13.0, SUSE 12.0, FEDORA 17) ALL HAVE BEEN TRIED IN BOTH 32 AND 64 BIT

My computer is :- HP WorkStation XW6200 Intel Xeon 2x 3.6GHz 4GB RAM, 500 Gb SATA HARD DRIVE, nvidia graphics card.
Has disk partitioned and running XP windows service pack 3 with no problems.

All help and advice would be very greatly appreciated as I really enjoyed using linuk mint previously.

All the distros you mentioned should run fine on a machine like that. If all the distros have the same problems I would assume hardware error here, so I would recommend to at least check the RAM (Memtest86+), the harddisk (manufacturer's diagnosis tool) and the cooling system.
