Recommend an image optimizer?

My searches have only turned up Windows-based ones. Can someone recommend something for Linux?

Could you give an example of what you want to do as far as optimizing an image? Gimp, xpaint...

What kind of application would you use to do this in winbloze?

Also, have you checked freshmeat? www.freshmeat.net

Cool

Looks like there are some options on freshmeat - I think I was looking for "jpeg image optimizer" and didn't come across anything.

I'm basically trying to optimize images for web display so they load faster. I came up with what I think is a nifty navbar image but it loads too slowly, so I need to optimize it a little.

Oh. That.

There's the Gimp which is pretty much capable of that and way more, and there is image magick which has X and command-line interfaces for bulk processing.
