RealPlayer 10 for Linux is here!

I don't know if this has been posted or not, but looks like Real is pushing RealPlayer for Linux now.

www.real.com (must view in Linux, NOT windows/Mac or else you won't see the main page)

Real has been reaching out lately, especially with their $0.49 per music download to compete against Apple's iTunes. This is great!

Well I upgraded to RealPLayer 10 and it looks nice... BUT, my Firefox 0.9.3 browser continues to open up RealPlayer 8! I don't want RealPlayer 8 anymore since I have 10! How do I uninstall, or, better yet, tell Firefox to open up RealPlayer 10????

Hopefully you don't have RealPlayer 8 installed because it'll get in the way. It's annoying! help me! LOL

i just deleted my other realplayer directory, which was /usr/local/RealPlayer8 (actually, i renamed it first, then when 10 worked i deleted it). make sure you configure your browsers to use the new real player, the real 10 player is better, but the plugin setup is not as good!

And how do I configure my browsers to point to the new RealPlayer 10 directory/codecs?

Did you install it? Did you get the *.bin file or the *.RPM file?

i did it in the mozilla preferences -> helper applications window. in firefox, i clicked on the link for a realplayer file (i used one at npr.org), then when the dialog box came up, i just entered the path to realplayer (/usr/local/reaplayer10/realplay) and checked the checkbox where it says "do the same thing all the time" for that type of file.

Well, I tried installing over the RealPlayer 8 directory and when I try to view streaming video, I get this error:

Requested file not found. The link you followed may be outdated or inaccurate. (file:///home/ken/.mozilla/firefox/default.vsc/Cache/A00B84F2d01)

The thing is that I went into that directory, and there is nothing called A00B84F2d01
What do I do?!??!?

try a different file? also clear your cache.

btw, no need to compile into the old directory (probably not the best idea anyway). the various realplayer versions can coexist.

>edit: it seems there's a bug with firefox, that might be your problem:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=240068

doesn't seem to affect mozilla -- you might have to use that or another browser until it's fixed.
