ratpoison color problems

Hi I have ratpoison installed on both my systems (Slack&Arch) and the the colors of irssi (as in the blue bar that runs along the bottom) and elinks come up fine but with my arch install it doesnt. Now arch has 1.2.2-2 installed and slack has 1.3.0-rc1 so I dont now whether that has something to do with it but probably not. I had the colors on the arch box with elinks but now I cant get colors all I seem to get is grey and black. I guess I find that strange as I have the same .ratpoisonrc and .Xresources on both systems and slack is fine with displaying the colors. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. Thanks
