Question about yum

First off, is there a GUI styles yum of sorts that also has a short description of what each package is/does? I doubt it but it would be nice.

My real question though...is there a way to do "yum list" where it doesn't scroll through everything at once? I tried using pause, forcing an exit, etc, and I couldn't figure out a way to stop it so I could see (for example) the list from A-G. I typed in just yum and none of its options seemed to fit this desired outcome.

Thanks for any help.

(Oh also I am looking for tools to make writing C, ADA, and PERL as easy as possible, any preferred applications you guys use would be very helpful if you list em.)

I am not aware of a GUI tool that provides short descriptions of packages and their functions, but if you have access to google, it generally not to hard to come up with this information.

As far as being able to see the output from a 'yum list' I would recommend:

yum list | less

This will stop the list at the bottom of the page, you can page down by hitting the space bar, or scroll up and down using the arrow keys. Plus one of my personal favorites is the search function. Hit '/' and type the string that you are searching for, to find the next match down hit 'n', for the next match up hit 'N'. If you use vi, then these navigation tools will be old hat.
