Question about source build and SVN

Hello everybody.
I just started to use K-3D. I use linux and I saw that there was two versions of the program, a stable and a development version.
I use Linux Mint so I downloaded the .deb package of the stable version. I then saw that the development version is install through source or SVN.

But I don't know what source is and what SVN is.
The source installation looks really complicated, but the SVN installation is only done by two commands (I think.)

On the website of K-3D, it says that with SVN you can "periodically upgrade to the latest version", but does that mean I have to install the stable version and then use the SVN commands to get the development version????

Hope you understand me or you can just write back.

Here is the links to the website so you can see what i'm talking about:

Briefly, source is the human-readable code that makes up a program. It gets converted, compiled into something a machine can understand, called binary or an executable. This is the program you run.

SVN is Subversion, a version control system, which allows multiple programmers work on a project and handles all the revisions and such, and allows you to get the source of any particular version you require, including development which is usually the bleeding edge, untested version.

Basically... if you aren't familiar with this stuff, and testing in general, stick with stable. This will be the most recent, tested, version.
