Qmail (Qmail-pop3d) pop login problem

I installed (as described here: http://www.ebruni.it/en/docs/qmail_mysql/)

now, when i try to log in my pop server from telnet (ON port 110), i get this:

Code:

+OK <12165.1090504124@justdome.servebeer.com>
user punker
+OK
pass password
-ERR authorization failed

Connection to host lost.

and with outlook, i get this:

Any1 has any idea on how to fix this ?

My mailbox is created proprely for this user.

Please help me its been 2 days since im on that problem

ps. oh yeah. when i go in "/bin" , i dont see checkpassword, but i see checkpassword-pam. could that be the problem. i have the feeling that my problem is with checkpassword

I don't think you want to use the one under /bin... you want to use the one here: /usr/local/qmail/bin/checkpassword. Or maybe that's what you meant? Maybe you got some patch errors when you ran step #16?

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. When I installed checkpassword (obtained from link on lifewithqmail site, and installed as per instructions on site where I downloaded checkpassword), there were several mentions of error name in main (or something like that) during the compile step and thereafter.

When I try to access Outlook from another machine, I get the password popup, but the correct username and password does not work.

This from the lifewithqmail site:

The standard checkpassword, http://cr.yp.to/checkpwd.html, is a good choice if you don't need anything fancy.

is where I got the link to the checkpassword download and instructions. Does anyone know if there is a problem with that checkpassword file?
