so i have qemu and want to install windows xp. i read a couple of guides and have it pretty much straightforward. what i want to know is that is it possible to copy the windows xp partition/contents of existing system to the image. I dont want to reinstall or upgrade all kinds of stuff.
thanx
your question doesnt seem to be clear, you already of have xp installed? are you trying to upgrade your xp? or do you think qemu will get deleted when you install xp?
He has a dual boot machine and he wants to install Windows from his Windows partition, rather than using the Windows CD (which he might not have anyway) and going through the whole dog-and-pony show of install Windows, reboot; update something, reboot; get 2 Windows Update Security patches, reboot; get 65 Windows Update Security patches, reboot ...
If someone could post a Win.img they use in their QEMU and let you download it, then you could copy it and boot into Windoze.
Please forgive me, but I forgot to say that I don't think you can install from your Windows partition. I am almost certain, but not totally. You might want to check with the folks IRC: the #qemu channel on Freenode. Or check the User forums from the QEMU website.
But if someone were to let you use their .img file, I think that would work if you have the proper command line arguement to start QEMU.
