Unhappy Pureftp wont compile

I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this problem with the pure-ftp compile.

I am running Suse 9 professional and I am trying to to upgrade pure-ftp so that I can use it with mysql. It works without it but I need the sql so I can use web based user management.

When I compile with the --with-mysql=/usr/bin command I get the error libmysqlclient is needed. Well the lib is in /usr/lib, but if i change the directory to that location it says error: mysql client libraries are not installed. I reinstalled them and the same thing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chongo
