publishing a Thunderbird calendar via ftp?

Hi,
I remember years and years ago, I used to publish my calendars from Thunderbird just by entering some ftp://me:mypass@myftphost, or something similar.
This old way was visibly updated a year ago at least, and since then I never managed to recover.
Searching the Thunderbid how-to's just brings ways to publish to various complex host systems, but not simply outputting a simple .ics file onto a server. I can produce the .ics locally, then upload it by hand in the right place, but it seems automating that is out of my reach...
Am I wrong? Is there actually a simple ftp or sftp way?
Thank you!
Hervé
