Pros and cons of CLI download tools [wget and curl]

Just yesterday I learned of the existence of curl - previously I thought it was all wget.
I am told curl has better HTTP and proxy support, but it seems that wget is the first choice for quite a few people...

Which would be the best for scripting purposes - and are there even more tools like them out there?

I don't think there is an ultimate utility just what you feel most confortable with.
A third option can be
'lynx -source http://some.url/'

to decide with you use, you need to know what is available on the machines where you plan to use it.
