proftpd can't login

i've setup proftpd on freebsd 4.7 and it worked a while with a certain user but i can't remember the setup then i think it was default since all i did was remove the part about anonymous users in the conf file but then i messed around with the permissions since i don't want users to cd into other users dirs and see content and i don't want them in /home only in their own dir and i managed to do that but now proftpd didn't work still so i copied the conf files from another active server we have that the boss setup and it's basically the same setup but it still didn't work so i suspect it's a perms issue but the perms are the same as the working server now i checked and still when i try to login it's the same error:
530 Login incorrect.
Disconnecting from site ****.swebase.com

i really need to fix this please help me

Try changing the password ...
passwd <username>

and then try to log in with that user again..

i had this problem before and although the password was correct and i was typing it properly for the proper user, i had to issue this command and change the password, and then it works again...its weird
you can try this and see if this is the same issue your having...

Try adding

Code:
RequireValidShell off
to your proftpd conf file. This may just do the trick.
