Problems with KDE 3.5.3

After I get this magical thing installed, allmost a new world came. But. There's always a but.

USB -mas storages doesn't regonize at all. No usb hard drive or memory stick. Is this only 'cause it's late and I'm tired, or something else?

Anyway, clean install of SuSE 9.3 takes allmost anything, just plug it in. Now, nothing happens. I can't get no, back-up hard drive!

Are you sure this is a KDE problem and not an underlying kernel issue?
Can you mount the USB drive manually (ie: from CLI)?

I'm pretty sure, that this a KDE problem. OK, now I'm awake, so I cheked again. USB-hard drive DOES mount on /media/usbdisk, only link doesn't appear on my computer window.

So you are just missing a desktop icon then?
Have a look in the Control Center to adjust that...

Oh I know this.

Sometimes you can't see the USB devices on the desktop.

To make it appear on the desktop, go to your "Computer" icon where a list of drives appear. Now you should be able to see the USB device there.

Double click on it, an error message should come up, saying cannot mount device or something.

Now check your desktop. The icon should be there.

No need to reboot.

I don't know what it is about Linux, but that's what happens = )

Next time when you plug a USB device in, when you're already logged in, just do what I said above and the icon should show up on the desktop.

I should add also that the USB device that'll show up on the desktop might end up under another desktop icon.

You can fix this simply by right click > clean up by name (equivalent of Window's right click > refresh)

Good luck!

Only icon on my computer doesn't appear. But /media/usbdisk or /media/KINGSTON does appear. Mounting is OK, but shortcuts are disappeared.

I prosume that starting X again would help. I think I try that next. Back online soon.

X restart didn't help. On my computer there is my hard drive partitions visible, but they cannot be mounted, because they are allready mounted. That doesn't bother me, I use then different route anyway.

Now, I just learn to use my usb-devices different route too. No big deal.
