I am using f-prot antivirus for linux mail servers to scan my e-mail with milter for sendmail.

I installed f-prot and everything worked fine for a few hours. Then the mail server stopped responding. I did a netstat and it showed around 65 instances of f-prot running. I have a P4 2.0 mail server, so I am positive that the server can handle this. I stopped f-prot and everything worked fine.

I tried running it again, and again in a couple of hours it stopped.

Anyone have any idea why it is stopping my mail server? I only have about 30 users on it.

Hard to say without knowing how f-prot is being
invoked, and what exactly it's doing... have a look
at lsof, also consider redirecting the output from
f-prot to individual logfiles (hint: use the message-id
as filename) or something the like...
