Problems installing WINE on Fedora Core 6 using $yum install wine

I have tried
$yum install wine
and
$yum -y install wine
and
$yum install wine-core
and it doesn't seem to be working. All it gives me each time is;

Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...re-6&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error nonnumeric port: 'proxy.usq.edu.au'>
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: core

Which makes me thing that my computer is trying to download WINE off the net. I'm not sure if it's supposed to or not, but if it is, the problem is the proxy (I think). The default proxy for the network is different to the one I'm using, because the default proxy doesn't let me do stuff. I can't find anywhere to download it myself and would appreciate some assistance, because part of my course requirements is that I can use some software that they've provided. Unfortunately they've only given us MS and Mac versions.
Can anyone help?

If "do stuff" includes downloading legitimate software from Fedora repo's through your default proxy and you're on a campus LAN I'd suggest you first talk to those responsable for the network about allowing access. Can't see how that would be against the uni's AUP.

Please note that Fedora Core 6 is no longer supported. I would recommend upgrading to a different version of Fedora or go with a distro that offers longer support periods.

Thanks - I think?

It has been both, it really just depends whether or not - at any particular instance - I'm using a terminal.
