Problems installing two ethernet cards in Mepis 3.4.3

I recently installed Mepis' newest version 3.4.3. However, I can't seem to make the two ethernet cards work. Both cards have a static assigned IP address (local and from the ISP). The lan connection worked but the IP given by my isnt can't ping anything. Why is that in Ubuntu, its easier to install the two ethernet cards? Here's my entries:

eth0 :

STATIC IP: 61.9.10.100
netmask: 255.255.255.248
gateway: 61.9.10.97
broadcast: 0.0.0.0 (i used it in mepis 3.3.1 before and I was able to successfuly activate the two cards)

eth1 :

STATIC IP: 192.168.0.201
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 0.0.0.0
broadcast: 0.0.0.0

Can someone help me configure my ethernet cards?

1.ping 127.0.0.1 and ping local ip(eth0 and eth1)
if is ok,otherwise your ethernet cards is ok,
2.ping gateway and other computer.
if can not connect the gateway and other computer.I think is the net line broken or gateway is wrong.

Okay. Here's what I noticed. I can ping my lan connection without any problem. On my other card, I need to pull out my cable and insert it again just to be connected. This means, I need to do this everytime I boot up. What should I configure to make this thing work?
