problem with yast

hi, using SUSE 9.1, kernel version 2.6.5-7.111.19

anyway, having problems with yast- install/remove software won't load when i click on it in the gui, and i can't even open yast from a command line-- i get :

Code:
Segmentation fault at /usr/share/YaST2/clients/menu.ycp:38
                                                         /sbin/yast: line 185:  6766 Segmentation fault      $ybindir/y2base menu ncurses
                                                         linux:/home/rclarke #
it's formatted like that as well, and i can't do anything in the terminal unless i close it an reopen it. I've tried reinstalling yast packages, ncurses, all the kde libraries, among other things. I can still install things with rpm, but i'd rather have yast working again for dependencies and such.. any help would be greatly appreciated;

thanks!
