problem with installing java on debian

I searched for it and found

# apt-get install java-package
# make-jpkg jdk-1_5_0-linux-i586.bin
# dpkg -i sun-j2sdk1.5_1.5.0_i386.deb
# apt-get install sun-j2sdk1.5debian
# update-alternatives --config java

the problem is that with 'apt-get install sun-j2sdk1.5debian' i get the result that there is no such thing, i tryed some other servers in '../apt/sourcelist' without any luck

those anybody know another way to install Java or just knows where i can find this?

greats

That step makes no sense; ignore it. The "dpkg -i" should install the package.

blackdown.org has the debian java package and you can do it with apt-get
put in sources.lst
or any other mirror and fix for whatever debian version you are running
then
apt-get update
apt-get search java
to get the correct name for the install
apt-get install <whatever it is>

The OP wasn't asking about installing Blackdown's Java. The OP is building a package for Sun's Java using java-package as described here.

alright... i think i fix it, because if i do
java -version i get

java version "1.5.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0-b64)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0-b64, mixed mode, sharing)

but another question: how do i change JAVA_HOME? because i just can't find where it is

thx already

Actually, the OP was about eating bread and you're telling him about a store that has day-old bread when he wants to bake his own.

Using java-package allows users to install the latest available sdk from Sun instead of only being able to choose what versions have been repackaged by Blackdown.

This line:
# apt-get install sun-j2sdk1.5debian

can be safely ignored. As spooon stated, it is already implied by "-i" in the previous line:
# dpkg -i sun-j2sdk1.5_1.5.0_i386.deb
