i have a 19 GB hard drive.
i installed mandrake 9 with a 2gb partition.
i want to uninstall linux.

i want to get my 2 GB back and get rid of the dual boot system

the only uninstall instructions i found anywhere were:

if you used norton partition magic boot it up under windows XP,delete the linux partitions,and resize your primary windows partition to fill the entire drive

Place your XP installation disc in your drive,reboot,hit R to enter the rescue console and type in fixmbr to go back to the system boot you had before linux.

pretty straight forward,but i did not use norton to make the partion. i just did it from the mandrake install disc rhat i burned from the site.
and the machine is running ME so i don't know if the XP instructions would apply.

You could do that with any partitionning tools... if you have an old win98 boot disk, you could even do this with fdisk. Or any linux live cd could do that.
But to clean out the MBR (to get rid of the dual boot) you will need a windoze cd or to install another OS on that disk (since installing an OS will usually wipe out your MBR)

You could boot up with the Mandrake Install disk, up to the point where it runs the Disk Formatter. Opt for custom formatting, select the Mandrake parition and delete it. Select the swap parition and delete it. Select the XP partition and select resize. It should say that it will be writing the partition information to disk. After the partition is resized and the partition table is written to the MBR, you can reboot.
Now you can do as the instructions say about booting up with the XP disk.
Another way is to boot up with a Knoppix disk. The qt-parted program might have a resizer, but I'm not sure.

threw the discs out.mistake.

i am pretty sure it was mandrake 10.0. i burned the image from a mandrake site.if i make another copy will that work ok for the steps you outline? (not being the original disc i installed with)?
where do i check on the desktop to find the version of linux i am using?.checked everything. all i get is KDE and konqueror
version numbers.

then it kept on asking me to creat a mount POINT like this\' and a swap partiton.COULD NOT DO IT.ASKED IF I WANTED TO CONTINUE ANYWAY. booted up windows.HARD DRIVE WAS STILL partioned.

trie again with disc 2 times no luck

then tried to boot windows-got blank screen with cursor

tried to boot linux-got DOS text on black screen with cursor at bottom

i can't even get the computer on,now HELP SOS
