Presentation with animated background

I have small movie clips about 10 seconds each that I wish to make them available behind a presentation.

The Presentations will have a number of different slides (about 40 slides) with few words on top and bottom of each slide. The background Image must be the clip I have chosen it is in avi format (No Audio is needed). When I wish I change to next slide, it could be before the 10 seconds or after the 10 seconds. if after the background will need to repeat it self.

The Text will be on top of the movie and must play immediately without getting out of the main presentation.

What Program Do I need for this task?

A program to set the presentation. (If this program could run also on windows will be great.)

other programs.....

I am using Ubuntu 8.10
