I have just installed a new HD and reinstalled win98 and mdk8.2,and I am using grub as my boot loader.I would now like to install RH 7.3 on a unallocated part of my drive.
Q1: Should I install grub in /boot or /.
On my previous HD I tried to install RH 7.3 and had problems with X.When I tried to test my settings the whole system froze. Finished the install ,re-booted and had problems with a respawning error every 5 minutes.
Q2: If these problems occur again, what can be done to solve them.
Video card is a Nvidia Gforce2MX 200,and my monitor is a Proview 561.
Q1: You shouldn't install grub anywhere, you already have it installed. But if you want to install it, I would go for the MBR, though I am not familiar with how to edit grub, lilo can boot Winbloze, and 2 distros of linux, and I am sure grub can too.
Q2: What is the respawning error talking about? If it's having problems with tty1 then you can ALT+F2 to tty2 and then see if your inittab is corrupt or something along those lines.
Q1. As masterc said, its already there. When you install RedHat it should give you the choice of bootloader to use and hopefully add the paths to the RedHat boot image for you.
I have exactly the same card in 8.2 and haven't had any freezing problems, either with the nv driver or the nvidia ones, so it may be an install error or maybe too high a rate was set.
Check the capabilities of your monitor and when installing, go for a safer setting and test then. You can always up the rates afterwards.
