postfix: where to set up username and password for virtual domains?

Fedora 9 with
postfix 2.5.5-1

I've succeeded in getting postfix to work with my main unix account, but I want to add additional virtual domain accounts and I'm struggling. I've set up users and email addresses in a file called virtual_mailbox but where do I set up the password for each new email address I create?
thanks for any pointers.

if it's any help here is the contents of postconf -n.

Start with man saslauth.

Are you setting up dovecot or similar for mail access? You can get sasl to authenticate against dovecot and keep one set of credentials for example.

Tell us a bit more about your setup.
