Smile Playing DVD's

I have recently installed Mplayer (Many thanks to the threads here for the know how). Unfortunately I can't get it to play the DVD's that I put into the DVD player. The DVD's are mounted but I am unable to get Mplayer to play them.

I have Fedora Core 6. I have a very (very) basic knowledge of Linux, so any guidance will be most appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to install the libdvdcss package for playback. Its the thing that decrypts DVDs and does not always ship with the install CDs because of export laws or some bull like that. Can download it from http://atrpms.net/dist/fc6/libdvdcss/ if you not sure how to get it through the package manager that comes with FC6

you can also install gmplayer for a GUI to mplayer, that you can select DVD from the menu.

I can't remember the device for DVD playback off hand, it's something like DVD:// if you want to do it from the CLI

Unhappy Thank you

Thank you for your replies. I had downloaded the libdvdcss thanks to the thread in relation to XINE. Also I had downloaded and installed the GUI for MPlayer. The Mplayer finds the disk. Attempts to play it, meaning the screen goes black, the disk is being read and the hard drive is running. After about a minute the screen pixalates and a quick blurb comes out of the speakers (I assume it is some of the narrative). This stays for about another minute until the same thing happens again.
I have attempted to load XINE and play the disk through this. XINE locates the disk opens the title page asking for the appropriate langauge and then displays the disks warning against copyright. At this time a message box appears stating that
The source disk can't be read and if you select the more button it produces many lines of text advising such things as unknown buffer type, throwing away image because it is too old.

It happens on multiple disks. And makes MPlayer freeze.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz processor, Raedon 9200 Video card.

Thank you.
